Walmart funds mass general hospital's ACl awareness program

The Women's Sports Medicine Program at Massachusetts General Hospital has been awarded a Community Partnership Grant from Walmart, Inc.  Through this program, physicians and providers will local schools in the Boston area to discuss the risks of ACL injuries in female athletes, as well as the latest data on injury prevention methods.

Since Title IX was passed in 1972, the participation of women in sports has grown exponentially, and with that the incidence of sports-related injuries in women has dramatically increased.

Female athletes are affected by ACL injuries four- to eight-times more commonly than their male counterparts.

Gender-related research and injury prevention continues to be a cutting-edge topic in the field of sports medicine. The WSMI promotes and raises awareness in this important field to support the health and progress of female athletes.
